The town of Newport, Arkansas is located in Jackson County, Arkansas. The county seat is located here. While the town itself has no notable events or attractions, it is an important part of the state’s culture and history. The area is known for the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. In 1831, Elizabeth was the first city in Arkansas to establish a river port.

Before the Civil War, Jackson County was a thriving agricultural region. The area was home to a large number of slave plantations. Its citizens were determined to keep slavery. The county even raised a company of soldiers before the war. The Jackson Guards eventually became Company G of the First Arkansas Infantry. In 1822, Obediah Cartwright explored Jack’s Creek and the county was officially named after him. In the same year, a Spanish guide named Leauteau was executed in the nearby town of Batesville.

The county is rich in history. The first Europeans to visit the area were settlers and settled in the region. The Spanish arrived in 1765 and made Jackson a county in the southwest corner of the state. The town was also home to many military bases.
